CityNews 680 Live Stream

CityNews 680 is the all-news station of Toronto, Ontario, broadcasting as CFTR on 680 AM across the Greater Toronto Area with headlines, traffic and weather around the clock. Owned by Rogers Sports & Media, it grew out of the 680 News radio service and today operates as 680 NewsRadio Toronto within the CityNews Toronto newsroom, where radio bulletins, television newscasts and a 24-hour video news channel share one reporting team, and its news service also streams live online.

The station's coverage carries breaking news, commuter traffic and weather across Canada's largest metropolitan area, with business and sports updates, city hall and provincial affairs, and extended reporting whenever major stories develop.

CityNews 680 Programs and the News Wheel

The schedule is built on a rolling news wheel rather than a fixed grid: at set points in every hour listeners get the top headlines, traffic and weather for the Greater Toronto Area, business news and sports, while breaking stories interrupt the wheel for extended coverage. Recurring reports track the latest headlines, road conditions, sports scores and market news, with cottage country traffic updates for weekend travel.

Radio programs and podcasts include The Big Story, a daily news podcast; the economics series In This Economy?; the crime series Tracking a Killer; the interview program Now You Know with Rob Snow; and Real Estate and Renovate, devoted to housing and renovation topics. The station also runs the Weather Guarantee, a contest built on the accuracy of its forecasts.

CityNews Newscasts and the 24/7 Video Channel

Breakfast Television opens the morning on Citytv Toronto with news, weather and conversation, co-hosted by Tim Bolen and Dina Pugliese, with Frank Ferragine as weather specialist.

CityNews at 5 and CityNews at 6 are the evening newscasts, anchored by Chief Correspondent Cynthia Mulligan, who took over the flagship programs when Citytv relaunched its news format in 2024.

CityNews Tonight closes the broadcast day with the late-evening news, and reporting from the same newsroom desks feeds CityNews 24/7, the rolling video news channel launched in 2022 as the successor to the CityNews Channel that operated from 2011 to 2013.

From Top 40 to All-News

The 680 frequency entered the air on 8 August 1962 as CHFI, a daytime simulcast of sister station CHFI-FM, and adopted the call sign CFTR in 1971 in honour of radio pioneer Ted Rogers, Sr. Through the 1970s and 1980s CFTR stood among Toronto's leading Top 40 outlets, trading ratings blows with rival CHUM behind morning host Jim Brady and, for two years, Chicago star John Records Landecker.

On 7 June 1993 the station dropped music altogether and relaunched as 680 News, the first all-news radio station in Canada since the CKO network folded in 1989. In October 2021 Rogers brought its news radio stations under the CityNews umbrella, turning 680 News into CityNews 680, and a further rebranding in March 2024 gave the station its present identity, 680 NewsRadio Toronto.

The station operates from the Rogers Building at 333 Bloor Street East, where Citytv's Toronto newsroom moved onto the same campus in March 2025, and its 50,000-watt transmitter near Grimsby carries the signal across southern Ontario, with an additional relay on 92.5 CKIS-FM HD2.
