WMAR 2 News is the news operation of WMAR-TV, virtual channel 2, the ABC-affiliated television station in Baltimore, Maryland, owned by The E. W. Scripps Company. Its call letters stand for Maryland, and its newsroom covers the city and the surrounding counties from Anne Arundel to Harford and Howard.

Maryland's first television station

WMAR was founded on 16 May 1946 and went on the air on 30 October 1947 - the first television station in Maryland. Its affiliation history maps the network era: independent, then CBS from 1948 to 1981, NBC from 1981 to 1995, and ABC since 1995. Sister stations in the Scripps family include WPXW-TV and WWPX-TV.
