WREG News Channel 3 Live Stream
WREG News Channel 3 is the CBS affiliate serving Memphis, Tennessee, and the wider Mid-South region - western Tennessee, northern Mississippi and eastern Arkansas. Owned by Nexstar Media Group and broadcasting on virtual channel 3 since 1956, it is one of the region's oldest stations, and its live signal streams online.
From the Peabody Hotel to Channel 3 Drive
The station signed on as WREC-TV on 1 January 1956, founded by radio pioneer Hoyt Wooten and taking the CBS affiliation from rival WHBQ-TV. Its first studios sat inside downtown Memphis's Peabody Hotel; in 1975 the station moved to purpose-built facilities on Channel 3 Drive overlooking the Mississippi River and shortened its call sign to WREG-TV. Ownership passed through Cowles Communications, The New York Times Company, Local TV and Tribune Broadcasting before Nexstar acquired the station in 2019.
News, Live at 9 and Local Programming
WREG produces about 43 hours of locally originated newscasts each week - among the largest news operations in the Mid-South - covering the region's big stories, severe weather and Memphis sport. The weekday morning programme Live at 9 follows a talk-show format, while the long-running Saturday public-affairs programme Informed Sources discusses local issues with journalists and officials. Historically the station was known for its enormous film library and themed movie weeks, and produced programmes such as the News Channel 3 Knowledge Bowl and News Channel 3 Outdoors. Its digital multiplex carries the 24-hour local channel News Channel 3 Anytime, Antenna TV and MovieSphere Gold.
