RTNB TV is the main television channel of the Radio-Télévision Nationale du Burundi (RTNB), the national broadcaster of Burundi. Operating from Bujumbura, the channel carries the state broadcaster's flagship output in the country's four working languages: Kirundi, French, Swahili and English.

Four decades of national television

Television arrived in Burundi in 1984, more than two decades after national radio began broadcasting in 1960 on the eve of independence. RTNB's television service grew from a single UHF transmitter in Bujumbura into a national network, completing its migration to digital terrestrial broadcasting in 2017 after a transition that had begun in 2013 and was delayed by the political unrest of 2015.

News bulletins and classic formats

The channel's schedule is anchored by trilingual news: Amakuru in Kirundi, the Journal in French and News in English. Its best-known entertainment format is Ninde (“Who is it?”), a series that began in 1980 and moved to television after 1984, while Burundi Bwacu presents the country's culture. Alongside the main channel, RTNB operates a second television service devoted to entertainment, as well as national radio networks.
