Tele Caraibes 22 is the television arm of Radio Television Caraibes (RTVC), one of Haiti's oldest and most popular broadcasters, based in Port-au-Prince. The group grew out of Caraibes FM, the radio station founded in 1949 - first on shortwave and AM, moving to the FM band in 1994 on 94.5 - which remains famous for Ranmase, one of the country's most popular programmes. After the January 2010 earthquake destroyed its studios, the broadcaster rebuilt and kept its place at the centre of Haitian public life.
Television for Haiti
Broadcasting on channel 22, Tele Caraibes carries the newsroom's output in French and Haitian Creole: the Bilten Enfomasyon news bulletins, the morning show Matin Caraibes, the interview format Premye Okazyon and the literary programme Des Livres et Vous, one of the rare book shows on Caribbean television. Cafe Philo hosts public debates, Caraibes Culture covers the arts, and TekTek explains technology to a broad audience.
Covering the Country's Life
The station's reporting spans Haiti's politics, security and social affairs as well as culture and sport, from the Flagday football tournaments to the coverage of national ceremonies. Its journalists work in a difficult environment, and the station has remained a reference for independent information in Haiti.
