ZO!34 is the regional broadcaster of Southeast Drenthe in the Netherlands, serving the municipalities of Emmen, Coevorden and - since a further merger in 2022 - Borger-Odoorn. Billing itself as "De stem van Zuidoost-Drenthe" - the voice of Southeast Drenthe - it combines a radio station and a television channel with local news, sport and community programming, and takes its name from the region and the N34 road that links Emmen and Coevorden.

Born from a Merger

The broadcaster was created in December 2016, when Radio Loco/NieuwsNet Coevorden and RTV Emmen fused into a single regional station; the new name was revealed on 15 December 2016 during the annual Glazen Huis radio event, after a public naming campaign held that summer. First housed on an industrial estate in Emmen, the station moved in June 2020 to the monumental Hospershuis building. On 1 September 2022 the broadcaster merged with RTV Borger-Odoorn, extending its coverage area.

Radio and Television for the Region

On television, ZO!34 carries the regional magazine RondjeRegio, the Sportcafé sports programme, Ondernemend on local business, the Vlinderstad Superchart music show and the popular Thuisbingo, a home bingo format inherited from RTV Emmen for which viewers buy tickets online or at local shops. A cable-news ticker runs between programmes, and events in Emmen and Coevorden are regularly covered live. On radio, the station follows a horizontal evening schedule, with a Saturday-morning news magazine and religious programmes on Sunday mornings.
