Salvación TV is a Puerto Rican Christian television channel broadcasting around the clock. Its signal is free to air: viewers on the north and north-east of the island tune to channel 8.3 with an outdoor antenna, and the rest follow the channel online or through its apps on phones, tablets, Roku and Amazon Fire.

Christian broadcasting on the island

Salvación TV belongs to the layer of Puerto Rican stations that serve their own communities rather than a national network. Its work rests on the church and on the contributions of its audience - the site keeps a page for donations and publishes a telephone line for contact - and its programming is devotional in character: services, preaching, Bible teaching, worship and programmes for the family.

How it reaches viewers

The station's distribution is unusually broad for a local religious channel. Besides the over-the-air channel it streams through the El Eden platform, which also carries the church's other media, and it publishes its schedule and gallery on its site. Its audience therefore reaches well beyond the island's antenna footprint into the Puerto Rican diaspora on the mainland and further afield.

A church's television

Channels of this kind are institutions in their own right: the congregation's services become the schedule, the church's calendar becomes the season, and the viewer is invited to take part rather than simply to watch. Salvación TV presents itself as exactly that - a television whose purpose is the preaching of the gospel and the service of its community.
