Alforat TV is an Arabic-language Iraqi broadcaster with a news operation that publishes reports, interviews and discussion of local, regional and international events.

News and current affairs

The channel's output emphasises updates and developments, with reporting and discussion rather than a fixed entertainment schedule. Its formats include news coverage, interviews, analysis and live event coverage — the standard shape of an Iraqi satellite news channel, where political talk carries most of the audience.

The broadcaster runs a news website alongside the channel, publishing written reports between bulletins. In Iraq, where electricity and internet access are uneven, a station's website and its video channel serve different audiences: one for readers at work, the other for households in the evening.

Iraq's crowded satellite market

Since 2003 Iraq has gained dozens of private satellite channels, many of them tied to parties, religious authorities or business groups. A viewer in Baghdad can choose between several news services and expects each to have a visible editorial alignment.

Arabic for Iraq and the region

Broadcasts run in Arabic and address Iraq together with the wider Arab world, which is why regional developments in Syria, Lebanon and the Gulf appear alongside domestic politics in the same bulletin.
