DR1 is a Danish TV channel with a long and proud history. It was launched on October 2, 1951 as the first TV channel in Denmark. Originally, the channel was called Danmarks Radio or DR, after the media house responsible for its production. Colloquially, it is also known as "1'eren" after TV 2 began broadcasting in 1988. After the launch of DR's second TV channel, DR2, in 1996, the name was changed to DR1.
DR1 is primarily known as DR's news and current affairs channel. The channel has a strong focus on delivering reliable and objective news to Danes. With a wide range of news programs such as "TV-Avisen", "Deadline" and "21 Søndag", DR1 covers national and international events, politics, economy, culture and much more. The channel has always been dedicated to maintaining its credibility and independence as a public service media.
In addition to news and current affairs, DR1 also offers a wide range of factual, historical and cultural programs. The channel has produced and broadcast a number of award-winning documentaries that have given Danes an insight into both Danish and world history. DR1 has also been known for bringing cultural events closer to Danes through programs such as "Kender du typen?" and "Aftenshowet".
Entertainment is also an important part of DR1's programming. The channel has aired popular entertainment programs such as "X Factor", "Den store bagedyst" and "Vild med dans". These programs have helped to bring Danes together in front of the screen and create shared experiences and topics of conversation.
DR1 has also been known for broadcasting major shared events such as international soccer matches. Danes have been able to follow both the European Championship and World Cup matches and other major sporting events on the channel. DR1 has always had a desire to be a channel for all Danes and has therefore tried to cover a wide range of topics and cater to different interests.
As a public service channel, DR1 also has a responsibility to fulfill certain requirements. The channel must ensure that it is accessible to all Danes and deliver high-quality programming. DR1 must also be independent and impartial in its news coverage and provide Danes with a wide range of cultural and social debates.
