SC Currents Live Stream
SC Currents is one of the public channels of Community Television of Santa Cruz County, the non-profit access organisation serving the county on California's central coast. It carries locally made programmes: talk formats, civic meetings, cultural features and the work of residents trained in the organisation's studios.
CTV describes itself as more than public access. It is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that supplies tools, training and programming to foster dialogue, civic engagement and self-expression through television, the internet and other digital media.
What the Channel Carries
Programming is produced by community members and by partner organisations. Local government meetings, candidate forums and public discussions of planning and housing appear alongside music, arts and documentary work, and the channel gives airtime to subjects that commercial stations in the market do not cover.
Volunteers are trained in studio and field production and can then put their own programmes on air, which is the central idea of the access model: the channel belongs to the community that makes it.
Access
SC Currents streams continuously through the organisation's Cablecast-based platform, delivered over the internet in high definition with English subtitles, and it is carried on the local cable systems serving Santa Cruz County.
