HLN online - Television live
HLN Live Stream
HLN is an American basic cable channel owned by CNN Worldwide, a division of Skydance. It was launched on 1 January 1982 by Turner Broadcasting as CNN2, later renamed Headline News, and it began as a sister network to CNN broadcasting a looping half-hour cycle of news segments.
Changes of Format
In 2005 the channel moved away from the continuous headline wheel and introduced personality-led programmes, including a primetime block with pundits such as Glenn Beck and the legal commentator Nancy Grace.
In the mid-2010s it repositioned itself around social media, highlighting headlines popular on the networks and adding social-media themed shows. Under CNN president Jeff Zucker the channel began to reverse that approach in 2016, shifting its daytime output toward crime, regional headlines and entertainment stories, in contrast to CNN's focus on politics, with true-crime programmes filling the rest of the schedule.
The 2022 merger of CNN's parent WarnerMedia with Discovery created the company that later became the present owner structure, and the channel's reliance on crime programming has only deepened since.
Programming
The schedule is dominated by true-crime series, among them Forensic Files, together with courtroom coverage, missing-person documentaries and investigation-led magazine formats. Limited live news remains in daytime, where bulletins and regional headlines are carried.
Access
HLN is carried by American cable, satellite and streaming providers, and its live signal is delivered over the internet in high definition with frame rates up to sixty frames per second, so the channel can be followed on phones and connected televisions.
