Halab Today TV, قناة حلب اليوم and known in English as Aleppo Today, is a Syrian television news channel. Its broadcasts combine music and images with a news ticker running along the bottom of the screen, carrying updates for the people of Aleppo.

From Aleppo to Istanbul

The channel originally broadcast from Aleppo. In 2012, under pressure from the Ba'athist regime, it moved its operations outside Syria to Istanbul in Turkey, from where it continues to transmit on Nilesat and online.

Its editorial focus is the north of the country. The channel relies on a network of correspondents in and around Aleppo and a staff working three shifts to provide twenty-four-hour coverage, with particular attention to military developments in the area.

Staff and Funding

Many of the channel's reporters and editors have remained anonymous for their safety, but some names are known: the former editor Samir Kanjo and his successor Feras Dibbeh. According to Dibbeh, the channel's funding comes from anonymous Aleppine businessmen rather than from a single patron.

Access

Halab Today TV broadcasts by satellite across the Middle East and streams continuously through its own website, where a live page carries the signal in high definition. The channel also operates a dedicated live account on YouTube alongside its main channel, and its output is listed in online catalogues of Syrian news services.
