TV channels Taiwan
Taiwan runs on rolling news. The island's television culture was built around all-day Mandarin news channels, and that tradition still defines Taiwanese broadcasting - alongside quieter voices, like the Buddhist station that shares the airwaves with the news heavyweights.
The Rolling News Tradition
TVBS NEWS has been on air since 1995 as the first 24-hour nationwide news channel in Taiwan, and remains the flagship newsroom of the TVBS family. Its sister TVBS News 24 keeps the same wheel turning. EBC News is the news channel of Eastern Broadcasting, another of the island's established satellite news broadcasters.
The Sanlih Pair
SET iNEWS belongs to Sanlih E-Television: it began in May 2011 as SET Finance and took its current name in June 2017, a sister channel to SET News, itself broadcasting since 1998. SET Live NEWS is the group's live news window, carrying breaking stories, politics and daily affairs as they happen.
CTi After Cable
CTITV Taiwan News is the news service of Chung T'ien Television. Long a fixture of the cable dial, the channel left cable in December 2020 and continued as a digital newsroom, keeping its journalists and its audience online.
A Buddhist Voice
HZTV - Hua Zang Satellite TV - is the calm counterweight: a Buddhist channel devoted to spreading the Dharma, carrying teachings, sutra talks and contemplative cultural programming in Mandarin.
Between the shout of the news wheel and the stillness of the Dharma, Taiwanese television covers the island's day in Mandarin, around the clock.
