Cuban television is built differently from anywhere else in the Americas. The state system carries the island's daily life, its international service speaks to Cubans abroad, and from across the Florida Straits a US government signal is aimed back at the island. The channels below map that triangle.

Havana's State Screens

TV Cubana represents the state television service of the Cuban Institute of Radio and Television, with news, reports and general programming from the capital. Multivisión, broadcasting from Havana for more than two decades, carries a varied schedule leaning on imported international series and shows. Sport has its own institution: Tele Rebelde, created on 22 July 1968 through the merger of Havana's Channel 2 and Tele Rebelde of Santiago de Cuba, is the second channel of Televisión Cubana and broadcasts around fifteen hours a day, mostly sport.

The Island's News Services

Two services cover the daily flow. Canal Caribe, on air since 2014, is the rolling news channel covering events in Cuba, the Caribbean region and the wider world. ACN - Agencia Cubana de Noticias is the video service of the Cuban News Agency, carrying national and international news from its newsroom.

Two Windows Facing Each Other

CubaVisión Internacional is the international channel of Cuban television - a public service transmitting by satellite from Havana around the clock, with the island's newscasts, roundtable debates, films and music for viewers abroad. In the opposite direction, TV Martí is the television service of Radio Televisión Martí, the United States government broadcaster for Cuba, carrying news, interviews, debates and documentaries from Miami with the stated aim of bringing uncensored information to the island. Cuban television, on this pair of channels, shows both directions of a broadcast divide that has lasted for decades.
