TV channels Croatia
Croatian television has a characteristic shape: the public broadcaster's national channels, the commercial network that broke their monopoly, one of the deepest regional layers in Europe, and channels devoted to the country's own music.
National Television
HRT 1 and HRT2 are the two national channels of Hrvatska radiotelevizija, the public broadcaster. Nova TV is Croatia's first commercial television network with a national concession, launched on 28 May 2000 from Zagreb - the channel that broke the public monopoly.
Regional Television
Otvorena TV holds a unique place: launched on 25 May 1989, it was the first commercial television station in the former Yugoslavia. The Dalmatian coast is covered by Diadora TV from Zadar, TV Jadran from Split - on air since 2003 - and Dubrovačka televizija from Dubrovnik. Slavonia and the east are served by Slavonska Televizija - STV - from Osijek, together with Osjecka TV, Plava Vinkovačka from Vinkovci and TV Banovina from Glina. The north-west has VTV Televizija of Varaždin, broadcasting since 1992, and the list is completed by Zapad TV, Z1 TV, Trend TV and TV Nova Pula from Pula.
Music and Sport
Klape i Tambure TV is Croatia's folk music channel, named for the two sounds that define the country's music: Dalmatian klapa singing and the tamburica. CMC TV carries Croatian popular music, and Sportska Televizija is the national sports channel.
