TVP Wilno Live Stream

TVP Wilno is a Polish-language channel of Telewizja Polska addressed to Poles living in Lithuania and to Lithuanians interested in Poland. It began official broadcasting on 17 September 2019 and is available throughout the Republic of Lithuania as well as online.

The station's work is financed by the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and it cooperates with Polish media in the country: Radio Znad Wilii, Wilnoteka, Kurier Wilenski and the Znad Wilii publishing house.

Mission

Its stated tasks are to inform and educate Poles in Lithuania, to strengthen friendly relations between Poland and Lithuania, to nurture the Polish language and promote Polish culture, and to integrate and activate the local community. It also aims to present the Polish point of view on events in Lithuania, Poland and the world, and to document the history and present life of Poles in the Vilnius region.

One further purpose is explicit: to act as a counterweight in the information sphere to Russian media, which for years sought to maintain influence in the Baltic states.

History

The idea of a Polish channel in Lithuania was raised in 2010 but was not realised at the time. In May 2016, after five years, the permanent TVP correspondent's office in Vilnius was reactivated, and work on the channel resumed in July 2018 when Miroslaw Ciunowicz, as the board's representative, began assembling the newsroom.
