MRTV News is the news channel of Myanma Radio and Television — MRTV — Myanmar's state-run broadcasting network. The channel carries rolling national news in Burmese along with English-language bulletins, produced from the broadcaster's center in the Kamayut area of Yangon.
The country's first television network
MRTV traces its origins to the Burma Broadcasting Service, and its television service — launched on 3 June 1980 — was Myanmar's first TV network. Today the organization operates the national radio service and a family of television channels; MRTV News is the part of that family dedicated to continuous news.
State coverage and public programmes
The channel's grid combines government and official news with public-affairs programming. One of its recognized formats is People's Voice, the long-running programme built around citizens' questions and officials' answers. The network's television services together reach the overwhelming majority of Myanmar's population, making MRTV News a primary source of official information in the country.
Alongside domestic reporting, the channel carries coverage of Myanmar's international engagements and major national events, from state ceremonies to election-period programming.
