FOX16 News KLRT Live Stream
FOX16 News - KLRT - is Little Rock's Fox affiliate: the breaking-news station of central Arkansas, broadcasting from studios in the Victory Building downtown and owned by Mission Broadcasting under the operating wing of Nexstar Media Group. On the air since 26 June 1983, it pairs Fox's national programming with a consolidated local newsroom serving the capital region, and its newscasts also stream live online.
The station brands itself Arkansas's breaking news leader, and the combined newsroom produces weekday morning, early-evening and late newscasts for channel 16, sharing reporters and weather staff with NBC affiliate KARK and MyNetworkTV outlet KARZ in the same building - a four-station cluster under the Nexstar umbrella.
Good Day Arkansas and the Nine O'Clock News
The broadcast day begins with Good Day Arkansas, the morning show launched in 2013 when the station's news operations merged with KARK's, and ends with Fox 16 News at Nine, a market first when it premiered on 28 March 2004. Weeknight anchors Donna Terrell and Kevin Kelly date to the founding of the news department, and chief meteorologist Jeff Baskin leads weather coverage for a region where severe storms track out of tornado country into the Arkansas hills.
The nine o'clock hour grew out of two decades of smaller steps: the brief Newscap 16 updates of the 1980s, and the five-minute AccuWeather-produced Fox First Weather segment that ran at 10 p.m. from 2000. A weeknight 5:30 p.m. edition was retained through the 2013 consolidation, and the station's reporters anchor the market's breaking-coverage reputation.
Arkansas's First Independent
KLRT signed on 26 June 1983 as Arkansas's first independent television station - the first new commercial outlet in central Arkansas in 28 years and the first UHF signal in Little Rock since 1954. The call letters stand for Little Rock Television, and the early schedule was classic independent fare: syndicated sitcoms, prime-time movies and sports. Fox programming moved to channel 16 for good on 28 April 1990, after a tug-of-war with the market's original Fox affiliate. Clear Channel bought the station in 1991; after the Newport Television years, Mission Broadcasting acquired KLRT on New Year's Day 2013, with Nexstar taking over operations and consolidating the newsroom with KARK's.
The Victory Building Cluster
Today the station shares the Victory Building near the Arkansas State Capitol with sister stations KASN, KARK and KARZ, while its 1,000-kilowatt transmitter on the Shinall Mountain antenna farm covers central Arkansas. Ion Mystery rides on subchannel 16.2, and the station joined Little Rock's NextGen TV deployment in 2021.
