Puthiya Thalaimurai (புதிய தலைமுறை) is a Tamil-language news television channel based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. It is part of New Generation Media Corporation, a media company with other publishing and broadcasting interests. The channel’s reporting follows developments in Tamil Nadu while also covering national and international affairs, sports and business for Tamil-speaking audiences.

A news channel rooted in Chennai

The broadcaster’s newsroom is based in Chennai, where the parent company lists its office in Ekkaduthangal. Puthiya Thalaimurai presents news in Tamil and gives attention to events that shape life across the state. Its stated editorial approach emphasizes credible reporting, reliability and fairness, while its digital work carries stories from Tamil Nadu into broader national and international conversations.

Local concerns and the larger picture

Coverage moves between state-level developments and the wider Indian news agenda. Reports include Tamil Nadu affairs, national politics, world events, sports and business. This range allows regional stories to sit alongside subjects with a wider impact, from public decisions and social questions to events outside India that matter to Tamil audiences. The channel’s own description also highlights its focus on issues seen through the perspective of ordinary people.

Discussion and analysis

Alongside news bulletins, Puthiya Thalaimurai has carried discussion and analysis formats. Its Nerpada Pesu page describes a Tamil debate programme where experts examine current affairs, politics and social issues, bringing different viewpoints into the conversation. The format complements on-the-ground reporting by giving complex topics more space for explanation and debate.

News across subjects

The channel’s editorial mix includes sports coverage and business updates as well as political and social reporting. International affairs broaden the agenda beyond Tamil Nadu, while the state remains central to its identity. The result is a Tamil-language newsroom connecting regional developments with stories from India and abroad.

A Tamil-language media identity

Puthiya Thalaimurai is one part of a broader media organization that also operates the separate Puthu Yugam TV brand. Its channel and digital news operation share a focus on Tamil reporting, but the television news service has its own identity and editorial coverage. From public affairs and current events to sport and business, Puthiya Thalaimurai serves audiences looking for a Tamil perspective on issues close to home and beyond.
