ITN Sri Lanka Live Stream

ITN - the Independent Television Network - is where television in Sri Lanka began: launched in 1979, it was the island's first TV channel and remains one of its most-watched, broadcasting in Sinhala from Colombo.

The Island's First Signal

The grid is the Sri Lankan mainstream: Sinhala news bulletins that have anchored the evenings for four decades, the teledramas that dominate the national conversation night after night, music and variety shows, and live coverage of the island's religious festivals - from the Esala Perahera in Kandy to the Vesak illuminations that light up the whole island.

From 1979 to Digital

ITN opened with Japanese technical help and a single transmitter on the hills above Colombo; today the network spans multiple channels, including the Tamil-language Vasantham TV, and reaches the Sri Lankan diaspora worldwide. The pioneer became an institution, and its news theme music is still recognized by three generations at once.

The Perahera, Live

The channel runs around the clock. An ITN live evening is the evening bulletin, the teledrama episode and - in season - the elephants and dancers of the Perahera in one sitting: the island's first channel, still first in the nation's evening habits.
