TV Martí Live Stream
TV Martí is the television arm of Radio y Televisión Martí - the United States government's Spanish-language broadcaster to Cuba, based in Miami and financed through the US Agency for Global Media. Named for José Martí, the Cuban national hero, the operation has transmitted news and current affairs to the Cuban people since 1985, and its broadcasts can be viewed worldwide through its website and live stream online.
Few broadcasters anywhere carry a mission statement as specific or a history as turbulent: created to be a free and reliable source of information for Cuba, jammed from its first day on the air, and even dismantled by executive order in 2025 - before returning to the air twelve days later.
From Radio Free Cuba to Martí Noticias
The plan in the early 1980s was a station modeled on Radio Free Europe - to be called Radio Free Cuba - aimed at hastening the end of Fidel Castro's government. Renamed for José Martí, the Cuban independence hero, Radio Martí was established in 1983 by President Reagan and began broadcasting on 20 May 1985, a date chosen to mark the anniversary of Cuba's 1902 independence. TV Martí was added in 1990. From the first day, Cuba jammed the broadcasts - retaliation that at one point disrupted American AM radio in several states - and the jamming has continued ever since, the broadcaster's signal arriving in Cuba anyway, by shortwave, satellite and the internet. The studios moved from Washington to Miami in 1996, placing the operation in the heart of the Cuban-American community it serves, and the modern Martí Noticias brand carries its journalism across the web, social media and video platforms alongside the broadcast signal.
Shutdown and Revival
In March 2025, an executive order dismantled the Office of Cuba Broadcasting, the operation's parent agency - every Radio Televisión Martí employee was placed on administrative leave and told not to access the buildings or computer systems. Twelve days later, the US Agency for Global Media reversed course: employees were notified they could return to work at Radio Martí in Doral, Florida, the network announced its return on X, and the Martí Noticias website resumed publishing. The episode was the sharpest disruption in the broadcaster's four-decade history - and one of the fastest reversals.
News for Cuba, Worldwide
The programming is journalism first: news of Cuba, international reporting and current affairs in Spanish, produced by a newsroom that covers the island with an independence no Cuban domestic outlet can exercise, and delivered to an audience that reaches it through whatever channel the jamming leaves open. The broadcasts can be heard and viewed worldwide through the network's website and on shortwave frequencies; the live stream, the video archive and an active social presence - from Facebook and X to Telegram and WhatsApp - keep the network's journalism within reach of the Cuban people wherever they are, from Havana to the diaspora.
