Teledoce - also known as La Tele and Canal 12 - is a Uruguayan free-to-air television channel founded in 1962, with regular broadcasts beginning on 2 May of that year from its studios at Enriqueta Compte y Riqué 1276 in Montevideo, an address it still occupies. It was the country's third television channel, after Canal 10 and Monte Carlo Television.

From Tele12 to La Tele

The channel's creation goes back to 1956, when Mario Gamprieto obtained a permit for the CXA 12 signal; funding came together with the Sociedad Televisora Larrañaga, whose shareholders included the owners of the El País newspaper. Over the decades Teledoce built a generalist schedule of news, culture, sport, humour, entertainment and fiction.

Today's Grid

The day is anchored by the Telemundo news editions - Telemundo de Mañana, Telemundo Mediodía and Telemundo Central - with the morning talk Desayunos informales, the discussion Esta boca es mía, the game show Trato Hecho, Puesta a punto and Algo que decir, and evening fiction including Verdaderos Culpables and El Encargado.
