WBRC (channel 6) is a television station in Birmingham, Alabama, affiliated with the Fox network and owned by Gray Media, which also runs the low-power Telemundo affiliate WTBM-CD (channel 24). The two stations share studios and transmitter facilities atop Red Mountain in southeastern Birmingham.

Alabama's Television Pioneer

The station first signed on the air on 1 July 1949, broadcasting on VHF channel 4 as WBRC-TV - the call letters standing for the Bell Radio Company, the Birmingham broadcaster that had operated WBRC radio since the 1920s. It was the first television station licensed in Birmingham and the second-oldest in Alabama. On 19 February 1953 the station moved to channel 6 as part of the FCC's frequency realignment. For decades a primary NBC affiliate with secondary ABC and DuMont ties, WBRC became a Fox station in 1996 after the network's purchase through the New World deal.

News for Central Alabama

The newsroom produces WBRC 6 News bulletins through the day, the morning show Good Day Alabama, the First Alert Weather service with its school-closing alerts and Storm Shelter information, and the consumer unit 6 On Your Side Investigates. The station's sports desk covers Alabama, Auburn, UAB and Samford, and its grid is complemented by sister services such as Telemundo Alabama and the First Alert 24/7 weather channel.
