Faith TV is the United States channel of the Faith Broadcasting Network, the Christian broadcaster that operates on air as MyFaith TV from East London, South Africa. Worship services, Bible teaching, prayer meetings and testimony programmes fill the day, much of it produced by the network's own congregation and by guest ministries from Africa, Britain and the United States. The American side of the operation is run from Marco Island, Florida.

From River Broadcasting Network to a global faith network

Christian television in the Eastern Cape dates back to 1986, when Dr Bernard Roebert headed a small station in Bhisho, capital of the former Ciskei. His son Dr André Roebert and Jenny Roebert, founders of River Ministries, set up River Broadcasting Network in 2002 with the stated purpose of running a channel of exclusively Christian content around the clock. The service began on the DStv commercial platform and then moved to shared free-to-air space on an educational channel operated by Pretoria University, where playout was manual and an operator fed tapes into two BetaCam machines. A place on the Multichoice Africa satellite bouquet followed, and the network settled on DStv 341 as its premium Christian slot. After sixteen years the operation was rebranded as the Faith Broadcasting Network.

Carriage in American markets

In the United States the channel reaches viewers through the digital subchannels of ten stations: WEQT 9.6 in Atlanta, WRJK-TV 22.8 in Chicago, KLEG-TV 44.6 in Dallas, KHDT-LD 28.4 in Denver, KHMP 18.3 in Las Vegas, KVMD 31.6 in Los Angeles, WJGV-CD 48.3 in Palatka, Florida, KRMF 7.2 in Reno, KSCZ-LD 16.17 in San Jose and WRZB-LD 31.6 in Washington. The broadcaster puts the reach of that carriage at more than 13 million homes, and its American office works from San Marco Road in Marco Island, Florida.

Teaching, worship and revival on the schedule

Faith Today is the interview strand, taking pastors and ministry leaders such as Niall and Tayla Clur, Ashley and Carlie Terradez, Bande and Thando Kentane and Dr Patricia Bailey through their work and their testimony. Wisdom For Life, presented by Allan Bagg, carries much of the teaching block, while Abundant Life and The NXT Live extend the schedule into devotional and youth-oriented territory. Services from Faith Church Buffalo City, the congregation in East London, go out live, and the annual revival gathering supplies both live coverage and highlight programmes under the Faith Revival banner — the most recent edition, Revival XXVI: The Call, ran from 28 June to 5 July.

The network around the channel

Several feeds run alongside the American one: Faith Africa, Faith UK on Sky channel 594, Faith Mzansi and Flow Africa on the Kwese bouquet, with family and gospel strands and foreign-language output in Russian, Afrikaans and Arabic. The group puts its potential combined audience in excess of 76 million viewers across its satellite footprint, and English-language programming is the common thread of the American schedule.
