Agape TV Live Stream

Agape TV is the Salvadoran open television channel better known on air as Canal 8. Owned by the Asociación Agape de El Salvador, it began broadcasting on 6 June 2001 over the YSWE-TV frequency in San Salvador and covers the whole country.

From an education channel to Agape

Canal 8 was created as a cultural channel by the Ministry of Education on 4 November 1964 and shared its output with Canal 10 from 1969 to 1989, producing educational programmes and cultural material for adults. The Asociación Agape, founded by Fray Flavian Mucci, entered broadcasting in 1978 and from 7 May 1984 worked to make radio and television tools of Christian communication; in May 1999 the government handed the administration of the VHF channel to the Instituto Tecnológico de Sonsonate and the Agape administration, and two years later Agape TV went on air.

Mass, prayer and devotional programming

The channel's religious spine is Catholic: Santa Misa with the daily Eucharist, the Sunday Mass, the Ángelus, and programmes such as Vida misionera, Vivencias de fe, Camino a Emaús and Caminando con la Iglesia from the Episcopal Commission for Communications. Teaching formats include ¿En qué creemos los católicos? and Predica Hermano Salvador Gómez.

News, science and culture

Alongside its religious work the channel carries an unusually broad general schedule for a faith broadcaster: Informativo Ahora for national news, the Noticiero Científico y Cultural Iberoamericano, Horizontes matemática, Recorriendo El Salvador, UES: Investigación Científica with the state university, and magazines such as Nuestra Mañana Ágape TV and La Entrevista. Children's blocks and educational series for schools have long featured in the daytime grid.
