GTV (Ghana Television) is Ghana’s national public broadcaster, operated by the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) from Accra. It began broadcasting on 31 July 1965. GTV transmits in English and Ghanaian languages including Twi, Ga, Dagbani and Ewe, serving audiences across the country.

A public television service since 1965

Ghana considered a television service through a feasibility study in 1959, followed by a training agreement with Canada in 1961. Training began in 1963, and the station launched two years later. At its opening, Ghana’s first president, Kwame Nkrumah, described education as a central purpose for television. GTV has since operated as part of GBC’s national broadcasting service.
