TVR 1 Live Stream

TVR 1 is the main channel of Televiziunea Română, the Romanian public broadcaster, headquartered in Bucharest. Regular television service in Romania began with it on the evening of 31 December 1956, following experimental broadcasts that started on 23 August 1955; for years it was the country's only television channel.

History

The channel carried the name TVR until 1972, when it became Programul 1, reverted to TVR in 1985 and was renamed TVRL during the fall of the Ceaușescu regime in 1989-1990. Under the energy-saving rules of the 1980s its broadcasts were limited to two hours a day, extended to three in 1988. Between 1999 and 2004 it was known as România 1 before taking its present name.

Programming

TVR 1 is the generalist flagship of the TVR family - news, entertainment, series, films, documentaries and cultural programmes. Its flagship newscast is the Telejurnal, and the public-service remit includes magazines for national minorities, among them a German-language programme. The channel broadcasts in 1080i high definition.

Its evening line-up moves from the Telejurnal through talk and magazine formats to films and drama, and it carries the events of national life - from the December 1st National Day to the great commemorations - to the whole country.

Distribution

The channel is free-to-air on digital terrestrial channel 1 in Romania, is also distributed in Moldova, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Hungary and Serbia and via satellite across Europe, and streams online through the broadcaster's TVR+ platform. Its sister channels are TVR 2, TVR 3, TVR Info, TVR Cultural, TVR Folclor, TVRi and TVR Sport.
