Trece - the Canal 13 de Asunción - is one of Paraguay's founding broadcasters: a free-to-air channel on the air since 1981, the country's second-oldest station and the first to broadcast entirely in color. Now owned by Grupo Vázquez and operating under the ZPV 913 TV license, it carries news, sports, telenovelas and national programming, and its signal also streams live online.

The channel's history tracks the history of Paraguayan television itself - from the Stroessner era's state-adjacent broadcasting, through the Brazilian telenovela wave, to today's news-driven operation.

Trece Noticias and the Grid

The channel's news operation is its center: Trece Noticias covers the national agenda with a full digital newsroom behind it - the judicial stories that dominate Paraguayan headlines, local reporting from the departments, the economy and the sports calendar, with the Copa Paraguay and the country's football on the schedule. Around the news run the channel's entertainment and drama programming - the telenovela tradition the channel pioneered - plus national productions, contests and the live events it has always carried from its own venues.

From Teledifusora Paraguaya to Trece

On 11 February 1981, businessman Nicolás Bo Parodi launched Teledifusora Paraguaya on channel 13 VHF in Asunción - the second channel in Paraguay and the first in the country to broadcast entirely in color. In its early years the station leaned officialist under the Stroessner regime, but its cultural legacy was built elsewhere: it was the first Paraguayan channel to broadcast Brazilian telenovelas, running the Globo and Manchete catalogs - La Esclava Isaura, Roque Santeiro, Doña Beija, Pantanal - that defined the country's afternoon schedule for two decades. The channel also produced beauty contests, sports broadcasts and concerts from its own Anfiteatro José Asunción Flores, and by 2000 its signal reached from Asunción to Ciudad del Este, Encarnación, Concepción and Pedro Juan Caballero. After changes in ownership through the 2000s, the channel operates today as Trece under Grupo Vázquez.

The Second-Oldest Signal, Streaming

Trece reaches its audience over the air on channel 13, on Paraguay's cable systems and through its own digital platforms: the live signal embedded in the channel's site, the video archive on its YouTube channel, and the news operation's social presence. For Paraguayans at home and the diaspora in Argentina, Brazil, Spain and the United States, the channel remains what it has been since 1981 - the country's second screen, now streaming to wherever its audience lives.
