El Watan News (الوطن, “The Homeland”) is an Egyptian newspaper and digital news outlet established in 2012. Its newsroom covers national and international developments, with reporting on politics, the economy, culture, sport and provincial affairs. El Watan also publishes video journalism under the El Watan TV and Al Watan Live names, extending its reporting beyond the written newspaper.

Live reports and newsroom coverage

In November 2024, the outlet announced a renewed format for Al Watan Live, describing it as real-time news coverage that follows developing events on the ground. The announcement said the format combines field reports and major events with current affairs, analysis, cultural coverage and entertainment. El Watan said trained presenters would deliver the coverage. These are newsroom content areas rather than a fixed list of named television programmes.

From newspaper reporting to online television

The outlet’s video work draws on the same news operation as its articles: coverage of Egyptian public affairs, stories from the country’s governorates and developments beyond Egypt. Its online video service has been presented as a way to follow breaking stories and major events as they unfold. Readers looking for El Watan News online can therefore find both written reporting and video coverage associated with the publication, including reports built around on-site updates and interviews.
