IRIB TV4 (Persian: شبکه چهار) is an Iranian state television channel dedicated to science, culture, art and intellectual debate, managed within the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting corporation. The channel went on air on Friday 12 April 1996 (24 Farvardin 1375) under the motto "channel of the learned", and today carries the slogan "Channel 4, the channel of wisdom".

A Channel for Elite Audiences

TV4 was designed to attract a specialised audience: its founding plan, approved in 1995, defined the production of scientific, cultural, artistic and religious programmes with analytical depth as its main goal, and the channel as a platform where the country's scholars and thinkers can join the discussion of political, social, economic and cultural questions. Programming is organised into five specialised groups - literature and art, culture and thought, knowledge, social affairs and politics.

Programme Structure

The schedule mixes cinema blocks, documentaries, the channel's own series, lectures and discussions, book introductions, a section devoted to TED talks and biographical programmes about notable lives. News and programme highlights are published on the channel's site, tv4.ir, alongside the broadcast schedule and the programme archive.

Distribution

TV4 is receivable in most of Iran through terrestrial UHF transmitters, and via the Intelsat 39 and Badr satellites its signal covers Iran, Asia, Europe and Africa. The channel's headquarters are in Tehran, on Mahnaz Street near Valiasr Street.
