News18 Lokmat is the former name of News18 Marathi, a 24-hour Marathi-language news channel based in Mumbai, Maharashtra. The channel is a joint venture between Network18 Group and Lokmat Group, publisher of the Marathi newspaper Lokmat.

Its editorial focus is Maharashtra: state politics, breaking news, municipal and district affairs, business, sports, culture and entertainment, with national context when it affects the state.

News programming

The channel's output is built around rolling Marathi news bulletins, headline updates, reporter-led coverage and discussion of current affairs. Recent output from the broadcaster includes Marathi Headlines Today, a live news bulletin format for Maharashtra developments.

As part of the News18 network, the channel connects regional reporting from Maharashtra with the resources of a national news organisation while keeping Marathi as its broadcast language.

Name and positioning

The Lokmat name reflects the channel's link with the Lokmat newspaper group. In its current form as News18 Marathi, the broadcaster remains a Mumbai-based Marathi news service rather than a general entertainment channel.
