Assirat TV - الصراط, the path - is an Arabic-language Shia Islamic channel broadcasting from Beirut. Its site carries the prayer times of the Lebanese capital, and its schedule follows the religious calendar with the observances marked in full.

What it carries

The channel's programming is instructional and devotional: قرآني for Quranic study, فقهي وعقائدي for jurisprudence and doctrine, الشخصية الإيمانية on the character of the believer, في الصميم for discussion of current questions, and المناسبات for the religious occasions - among them the commemoration of the martyrdom of Fatima al-Zahra, observed in the Shia calendar. Scholars and preachers present the material, and the day runs from morning to late evening.

Broadcast

The channel transmits on Nilesat at 11603 MHz, horizontal, symbol rate 27500, FEC 7/8, and on Galaxy 19 at 12177 MHz, vertical, symbol rate 23000, FEC 3/4 - the two positions that between them cover the Middle East, North Africa and North America. Its programmes and frequencies are published on its site, along with a live player.

A Lebanese Shia voice

Lebanon's Shia broadcasters form part of the country's confessional media landscape, each addressing its own community and the wider Arabic-speaking audience. Assirat belongs to that landscape, and its output is built on the teaching and calendar of the Shia tradition.
