CBS News Boston Live Stream

CBS News Boston is the local streaming news service built around WBZ-TV, channel 4, the CBS station in Boston, Massachusetts. The station is owned and operated by CBS News and Stations, and it shares studio facilities on Soldiers Field Road in the Allston-Brighton section with the independent station WSBK-TV.

The Station

WBZ-TV began operations at ten in the morning on 9 June 1948 with test patterns, and its dedicatory programme aired that evening with remarks from Archbishop Richard Cushing, Rabbi Joshua L. Liebman, Mayor James Michael Curley and Governor Robert F. Bradford. The dedication was followed by the station's first news broadcast, hosted by Arch MacDonald.

It was the only television station built from the ground up by the Westinghouse Electric Corporation, and at sign-on it became the first commercial television station in New England. Channel 4 operated from inside the Hotel Bradford alongside its radio sister and was associated with NBC from the start, owing to WBZ radio's long affiliation with the network, remaining an NBC affiliate until 1995.

Its transmitter stands on Cedar Street in Needham, on a tower site formerly owned by CBS and now held by American Tower, shared with WSBK, WCVB-TV, WBTS-CD and WGBX-TV.

Streaming Output

The service carries the newsroom's reporting beyond the broadcast schedule: breaking stories from Boston and Greater Boston, weather and traffic, politics from the State House, and coverage of the region's universities, hospitals and technology sector.

Access

CBS News Boston streams continuously over the internet from the CBS interactive video network, and it is available through the CBS News website, app and connected televisions.
