TV channels Chad
Chadian television is, in essence, one broadcaster's story. In a vast Sahelian country where radio still carries further than any screen, the national channel has held the television field largely to itself for decades.
Télé Tchad, the National Broadcaster
Télé Tchad - which now also carries the Onama TV identity - is the public television of Chad, created on 10 December 1987 and broadcasting from N'Djamena. Its schedule runs in the country's two official languages, French and Arabic, some twenty hours a day: national and regional news, educational and cultural programmes, religious content and local sport.
As the country's national television service, the channel is the screen on which Chad watches itself - from the capital's announcements to provincial football. Its journalism works under the close eye of the state, in a media climate that press-freedom monitors consistently rank among the hardest in Africa.
