Thai PBS, the Thai Public Broadcasting Service, is Thailand’s public television broadcaster. It was established under the Public Broadcasting Service Act, which came into force on 15 January 2008, and broadcasts on UHF channel 29. The service was created with a legal structure intended to support editorial independence and public-interest programming.

From iTV frequency to public broadcasting

Thai PBS took over the frequency previously used by iTV after the 2008 public broadcasting legislation. It tested its signal in late January and began regular programming on 1 February 2008. The broadcaster operates as a state agency with legal personality, but is neither a government department nor a state enterprise.

News, public issues and factual content

Thai PBS’s current output includes news, science, society, policy and international coverage. Its official service features Policy Watch on public policy, The Active on social issues and The Visual for visual storytelling. Other current formats include decode, which focuses on society, and World for Thailand and international news. NOW is another programme label appearing in its current listings.

Thai PBS also produces documentaries and educational and children’s programming. Its schedule and digital content cover domestic affairs, world news and public-interest topics.
