Bolivisión is one of Bolivia's national free-to-air networks - Canal 5 from La Paz, on the air since 1985 and now owned by the regional group Albavisión. Broadcasting news, entertainment, novelas and sport to the whole country through its network of stations, it is one of the country's main sources of national and world news, and its signal also streams live online.

Few Bolivian broadcasters carry a comparable institutional arc: from a bank-owned pioneer of private television to a national network with stations in La Paz, Cochabamba and Santa Cruz.

Al Día and the Programming

The channel's news brand Al Día anchors the schedule - the daily magazine and its live interviews - alongside Investiga, the channel's investigative reports, and Grandes Historias and ¿Qué harías sí? for long-form documentary and reality storytelling. Travel and culture appear in Modo Viaje On and Genios de Altura, the schedule's homegrown documentary formats, while the novela slate - Los Hilos del Pasado and Cuando los Ángeles Caen - fills the prime-time drama hours. Sports and the country's big civic events round out the grid, with Bolivisión Play carrying the live signal and the archive on demand.

From América Televisión to Red Bolivisión

The station launched on 28 September 1985 as América Televisión, one of Bolivia's first private channels, on channel 6 VHF in La Paz. The national Red Bolivisión took shape in 1996 under engineer Ernesto Asbún as a network of independent stations, later consolidated under Albavisión, with licenses held through Bolivisión S.R.L., Antena Uno Canal 6 S.R.L. in Cochabamba and Galavisión S.R.L. in Santa Cruz de la Sierra. Today the network's studios stand in a shopping center in La Paz, steps from the Plaza Murillo - Bolivia's political heart - and the signal reaches the whole country through its three-station backbone.

The National Signal, Streaming

Canal 5 reaches Bolivian households over the air and on cable systems, and the live signal streams through the network's own player, with video on demand carried by Bolivisión Play and the channel's YouTube operation - where news interviews and reports are streamed live. For Bolivians at home and for the diaspora in Argentina, Spain, Brazil, Chile and the United States, Bolivisión remains the country's daily reference: news, novelas, investigations and sport, from La Paz to the whole of Bolivia.
