MTA2 Europe Live Stream
MTA2 Europe is the European channel of MTA - Muslim Television Ahmadiyya International, the satellite network of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community and the world's first Islamic television channel to broadcast globally. One of ten regional 24-hour channels from a network established in 1994, it carries European-focused programming from the community's studios in many languages, and its signal also streams live online.
The network behind the channel is one of broadcasting's more improbable success stories: a global operation, funded entirely by member donations and running no commercials, that grew out of a telephone line.
From a Phone Line to a Satellite
The origin is March 1989, when Ahmadiyya communities in Mauritius and Germany began dialing the Fazl Mosque in London by telephone to hear the caliph's Friday Sermon - played through mosque loudspeakers on the other end. As more countries dialed in each Friday and overwhelmed the phone lines, the community built a broadcasting operation: Ahmadiyya Muslim Presentation began weekly sermon broadcasts in 1992, the annual Jalsa Salana convention was televised live for the first time in 1993, and on 7 January 1994 the service became MTA - expanding from four hours a day to twelve, and to a full 24 hours in April 1996. The first studio was a ten-by-ten-foot room in the Mahmood Hall of the Fazl Mosque, one camera and what the community's own history calls a few ordinary floodlights.
A Network of Regions
MTA grew by language and geography: MTA 3 Al-Arabiya launched in 2007 as an entirely Arabic channel, MTA Africa 1 and 2 followed in 2016 with African-language programming, and on Khilafat Day 2020 the network rearranged itself into region-specific channels - the structure that includes MTA2 Europe today, with MTA's global flagship and regional services carrying the caliph's sermons, community programs, religious discussions and cultural programming to their respective audiences. The Africa service joined the African Union of Broadcasting in 2024, and the whole operation continues to expand its reach, satellite by satellite.
The European Channel
MTA2 Europe carries the network's programming for European viewers: the Friday sermon and other broadcasts of the caliph live from London, community and youth programs, discussion and education series, and multilingual output that reflects the Ahmadiyya communities of the continent - with audio tracks and subtitle options serving viewers in many languages. The channel streams in high definition around the clock, funded by donations rather than advertising, from the community's UK base at Islamabad, Tilford - the European arm of a network that began with a phone call and now circles the globe.
