NPO 2 Extra Live Stream

NPO 2 Extra is the cultural theme channel of Dutch public broadcasting. It started on 1 September 2006 as Cultura 24, became NPO Cultura in 2014 and has carried its current name since 26 March 2018. Broadcasting 24 hours a day, it serves as the NPO's dedicated home for art and culture - although budget cuts have sealed its future: closure was definitively approved in April 2026, and from 2027 the cultural offer is set to continue only via NPO Start.

One Evening, One Art Form

The grid assigns each hour its own genre: literature at eight, pop, jazz and world music at nine, theatre and visual arts at ten, classical music at eleven. Saturdays belong to film, Sundays to concerts, and each four-hour block repeats at rotating times. During the pandemic closures this Dutch culture channel kept the stages alive with weekly concerts, opera and ballet registrations.

Programs That Built the Channel

The literary magazine Knetterende Letteren is presented by Kenneth van Zijl. Classical music has its studio showcase in Spiegelzaal, while the legendary 2 Meter Sessies return in fresh edits introduced by Jan Douwe Kroeske. AVRO's Toppop Golden Years, with new introductions by Ad Visser, mines the pop archive, Vrw. zkt. Knst. with Isolde Hallensleben hunts for remarkable films, books and images, and 3voor12 presenteert covers the alternative scene.
