Afganistan
Afghan television is built around a state broadcaster and a group of private networks based in Kabul, broadcasting mainly in Dari and Pashto. The catalog section for Afghanistan gathers news, entertainment, religious and sports channels that serve audiences inside the country and in Afghan communities abroad.
News Television in Dari and Pashto
TOLOnews is the country's first 24-hour news channel, launched in August 2010 by the MOBY Group, with continuous bulletins in Dari and Pashto and an English-language news service online. Ariana News, the news arm of the Ariana Television Network, has reported national and international events since 2014.
Entertainment and General Channels
Tolo TV, on air since November 2004, is one of Afghanistan's first commercial stations, mixing entertainment, drama and social programming. Its sister channel Lemar TV broadcasts entertainment and news in Pashto, while Ariana Television Network runs a general private network from Kabul in both official languages. Zhwandoon TV, launched in 2011, adds Pashto-Dari programming to the national lineup.
State Broadcasting: RTA
RTA (Radio Television Afghanistan) is the public broadcaster, with television service dating from August 1978 and a national channel reaching all provinces. Its dedicated sports outlet RTA Sport, launched in 2019, covers cricket, football and other competitions involving Afghan teams.
Religious, Diaspora and Former Channels
Shamshad TV is a Pashto-language channel of the Shamshad Media Network; its broadcasting was suspended in October 2025. Payame Afghan TV and Tuti TV serve Afghan audiences from the United States, carrying Dari and Pashto programming for the diaspora. Several Kabul channels are no longer on air: Tamadon TV closed in June 2026, Arezo TV in December 2024, Noor TV was suspended in April 2024, and Khurshid TV went off air after 2021 — their pages remain in the catalog as part of the country's television history.
